Bad Eating Habits You Should Drop After Christmas

Sometimes during the Christmas holiday, even the healthiest and conscious eaters tend to drop their healthy habits and replace them with bad eating habits. Believe us, we know how easy it can be to slide into bad eating habits, especially during the holidays. Huge meals followed by delicious desserts and a lot of leftovers make it hard not to indulge or overindulge for that matter.

The winter holidays seem to be the time of year that leads to some weight gain even if it’s only a few extra pounds. Not only is it easy to gain weight but it is also easy to fall into prolonged bouts of bad eating habits that linger long after the holidays are over. In some cases, sugar levels spike as well. There is a lot of negative that can surround the bad eating habits we fall into so today we want to share with you some of the bad eating habits you should definitely drop once Christmas is over.

  • Overeating: We have all found ourselves trying to make room for more food at some point in time during the Christmas holiday. We like to try a little bit of everything that is on the dinner table and sometimes this leads to having seconds. Then the desserts are brought out and we find ourselves trying to push through the digestion process to make room for some cake and pie. Overeating every once in a while isn’t such a problem but if it happens too often it will lead to digestive health issues, weight gain, and other gut health problems.
  • Too Much Sugar: It seems like after Thanksgiving the sweet treats make their way out in a big way. Chocolates, cakes, pies, and cookies seem to be everywhere and a lot of us seem to find ourselves indulging in the sugary sweetness. We all know too much sugar can lead to various issues starting with the crash and burn which leads to the sluggish lazy feeling. The beneficial bacteria in our gut love sugar and when there is too much sugar being taken in it can pave the way for too many bacteria in our gut which leads to negative results.
  • Midnight Snacks: Snacking before bed or in the middle of the night can become a bad habit pretty quickly. We have all experienced the feeling of the rumble in our tummy close to bedtime and trust us it can be a trap. Our food needs time to digest and when we eat before we sleep it complicates the digestion process. Midnight snacking can lead to weight gain and an increase in bacteria, as well as indigestion.
  • Too Many Carbs: Carbohydrates break down into sugars in our gut. There are a lot of different foods full of carbs served during the Christmas holiday and many days after. Too many carbs can lead to weight gain, excess sugar, and bloating. It’s nice to indulge every once in a while but it’s definitely an eating habit to drop once the holiday is over.
  • Skipping Breakfast: We’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it proves to be pretty true. There are a lot of us that skip breakfast on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Once the holidays are over make sure you get yourself back into the swing of eating breakfast. It provides our body with the energy we need to get up and into our day. It also helps get our brain ready for all of the thinking we do.

  • Some other bad eating habits you should drop after Christmas are not drinking enough water, binge eating, too much snacking, and starving oneself to prepare for all of the food. Once the holiday is over, make sure you get yourself back into the right eating habits that are good and healthy for you. Some bad eating habits can be hard to break once they’re started. Try to be mindful about what you eat and how you eat even during the holidays. We all like to indulge and it can become easy to overindulge. Your health matters and we care! From our family to yours we wish you Happy Holidays.
