More than likely, your surgeon will recommend that you wear a compression garment while your body heals from the surgery. After a few weeks, you’ll be able to transition to wearing a waist trainer or slimmer as part of your everyday routine. 

Post Surgical Garment

Immediately following surgery you won't be able to wear a waist trainer. At this stage, your doctor will advise you to wear a gentle compression garment since you’ll likely have to deal with swelling around the midsection. The compression garment uses strategically placed pressure to alleviate swelling and enable normal tissue adhesion. The compression garment also reduces pain and fluid retention. Medical grade compression garments should be worn during recovery. 

When Can I Start Waist Training?

You can start waist training once you have fully healed which is approximately eight weeks after your surgery. If you're not sure whether you should begin wearing a waist trimmer you should consult with your physician. You don’t have to fully commit to wearing a waist trainer. Start off by waist training during your workouts only. Waist training during exercise stimulates heat and sweat production which further helps you develop core strength. Once you’re comfortable you can begin gradually wearing one every day under your clothing.

What Type of Waist Training Garment Should I Wear?

A workout band with a velcro closure may be ideal as you work your way back into waist training. This type of waist trainer is more comfortable to wear than a traditional corset or latex waist trainer.  Until you’ve regained your strength you shouldn’t wear a trainer that has high compression. Your body will need some time to adjust to the garment especially after healing from surgery. 

Keep in mind that it’s important that you slowly ease your way into waist training. You can wear the garment in short sessions throughout the day. After a few weeks, you’ll be able to wear your waist trainer for at least eight hours a day.
